Wal-Mart last year introduced a new uniform for its “associates” – employees to you and me – replacing those hideous blue smocks. Selected store workers got khaki pants and a blue polo shirt emblazoned with the Wal-Mart logo.
Now, the company said it’s rolling out the new unis to all of its stores and that associates are really pleased with the new look.
Maybe it will bring a new attitude in customer service, too. Unfortunately, good service has become an exception and not the norm at the world’s largest retailer.
Yeah I’m sure the associates are just THRILLED with having to wear a uniform.
Anybody that’s ever had to wear a uniform knows what I’m talking about.
Don’t expect this to be a boost in customer service.
Actually a blue polo and khaki pants will make it harder to identify a walmart employee when you need help… And according to atleast one Walmart employee I talked to that just might be the point.
From speaking to friends of mine who work for wal-mart, in Pontotoc, New Albany, Tupelo, Fulton, and Amory, these uniforms are not being “given” to them. They get the first set, and then must purchase any others. Nice. Many of them can’t afford the company insurance, so how can they be expected to afford the company image? Just another self-centered wal-mart ploy to make customers think everything is hunky-dorey. Yeah, right.
They are doing what they can to copy the image of another large store that wears blue polo style shirts and khaki pants. I won’t tell you who that is, but one hint, go look at the electronics department and notice the TV selection and the display of such. Rumor control is that they will also be trying to push out installation services like another large store that wears blue polo style shirts and khaki pants. Maybe they will learn one day, it’s not the visible image that people are sick of at Wal-Mart, it’s the internal attitude of greed and lack of personal attention towards the individual be that a customer or employee.
Anyone know when we can expect to see the new uniforms in Tupelo?
The new uniforms are already in Tupelo and have been for several weeks now. Speaking as someone who is married to a Walmart employee I can tell you that all the employees I know of are less than thrilled with the new uniform. What Walmart seems to have overlooked with the uniform is the fact that Khaki pants aren’t practical for all departments in their store. Some of their stocking postions require employees to get on their knees in the floor and we all know how Khaki shows dirt. A darker color pant and maybe a different color shirt would have been much better. That is not the only complaint however. They actually didn’t give the employees any of the uniforms the first one was deducted from their check.
As a Wal Mart employee I am not thrilled with uniforms. I like to dress like a normal person. We were told that after all grade school children wear uniforms. LOL. Imagine being compared to an eight year old.
I am an employee of Wal-Mart and have found the uniforms to be very neat looking and saves having to purchase clothing that keeps up with the lattest. I can easily wear three blue company shirts and three Khaki pants for six months or so. Washing frequently of course. Very cost effective. We need as many perks like that to stretch our dollars.
As an employee at Wal-mart I think that the uniforms have both a positive and negitive approach. On the positive side it really does save on everyday clothes we would have to purchase just to keep up with the latest styles. On the negitive side it makes it harder for the customer to recognize a employee.

True, Walmart isn’t going to be on the cover of Vogue any time soon, but the company has stepped up it’s fashions over the past few years. I hate to admit it – considering how difficult they are to work with for us media types – but I had to make an emergency run to Walmart last night for polyurethane and I found myself getting distracted by the clothes along the front racks. Of course, quality and cut vary differently, but I don’t see the point of spending $40 on a brand name cotton tank top when I can get it at Walmart or Old Navy for $5 or $10.

My Girl Molly is complaining about a uniform after working there how many days…??? What is so trashy anout wearing a blue top and khaki pants? I haven’t seen any uniforms that I have ever been crazy about but when i had to wear them i did. Now i get to wear PJ’s and sweatpants all day b/c I work from my home…So Molly hang in there at WALLY WORLD, uniform and all… Peace and I’m Out!!!

I think that the uniform idea is great for Walmart. I would rather see Walmart pickup the tab for the uniforms but at least they are allowing the employees to purchase the uniforms at a discounted rate from the store. And at least that they don’t have to wear there own clothes to work.
Uniforms are not such a bad thing because it keeps you from have to wear your good clothes to work, especially if you don’t have to pay for your uniforms

We’re allowede to wear bluejeans on third shift at our walmart. The blue shirt thing stinks, but it is alot better than the blue vests we use to wear. There are alot of crappy things about walmart, there dress code is on the bottom of that list.
i would just like to know where to order the tshirts, that say walmart, we r allowed to wear them at our store or the blue polo’s. anyone know where i can get them? thanks
