Did you hear? The Feds are giving away money and the recipients have been instructed to spend it ASAP. Under the economic stimulus package approved by the House today, as many as 117 million people will get rebate checks. Individual income tax filers will receive up to $600, working couples will get up to $1,200, and those with children will get an additional $300 per child.
I’m still deciding what I want to spend my cash on. A new couch would be nice. What are you going to buy? And, do you think this is really going to ward off the dreaded r-word?

never got something like this before so will the check be mailed to me or will i have to apply somewhere?
oh yeah spending well i think i might put it toward a new laptop.
In 2001, they mailed me the rebate.
It will be mailed, beginning in May. Everybody “should” get their check by the end of July.
Of course the U.S. Senate still has to get its hands on it, and I’m sure there’s a way it’ll get screwed up there with attachments that some (read, Democrats) want to insert.
Get us our money - ASAP!!!!
I don’t foresee the dems in the Senate holding this up. The house dems were able to include a $300 rebate to those who did not earn enough to pay taxes. Personally, I call that a gift, not a rebate.
We can hope they won’t. However, I think Harry Reid, D-Nev., indicated that the Dems would work on some of the unemployment extensions that the House Dems weren’t able to get in the stimulus package. We’ll see how it plays out.
Uhmmm…Hello??? Aren’t we on the doorstep of the recession??? How is money in MAY going to ward it off??? I’m still with Marty Russell…if a recession was never mentioned people wouldn’t stop spending. Everyone gets scared when the word pops up in the news and they cause it by reacting in fear.
It’s a media conspiracy…hahahahaha.
It all goes back to living the “Good Book”
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7
By definition, a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth in GDP - which we haven’t had yet. And then, it’s usually in the rearview mirror that we can say - oh yes, we had a recession. Now, we may indeed be at the doorstep of a recession, but we don’t know for sure. Economists have as many opinions are there are, well, economists.
Put money in people’s hands, and they’ll likely spend it. A temporary shot in the economic arm, to be sure, but a shot nonetheless.
