Here’s an example of a city that has a good grasp on how to draw in the tourist dollars (read previous spring break story) — announce a big attraction immediately after spring break when people are starting to think about summer vacation plans.
And last we heard, the Tupelo CVB is looking into the possibility of adding a waterpark in the area. Granted, it’s on the the five-year projection plan (and it was on the previous one), but at least it’s on the radar.
From Sea World:
ORLANDO, Fla., – SeaWorld’s much-anticipated Aquatica comes alive Friday, April 4, wowing guests from around the world with its innovative new take on the traditional waterpark.
Featuring 36 water slides, six rivers and lagoons and more than 80,000 square feet of seemingly endless, sandy beaches, this extraordinary waterpark impresses visitors in size and scope alone.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there — add exhilarating encounters with Commerson’s dolphins, giant anteaters, brilliant birds and an array of exotic fish, and you have Aquatica. This stand-out waterpark is the first — and most thrilling — attraction to open in Orlando in eight years.
a water park would be perfect for the area. we all know the summers can get real brutal and i think at the moment the nearest water park is in birmingham at visionland or whatever they call it these days. also it would be nice if they built an indoor ice skating ring nearby.
Yes I agree with Jason!!!
I love water parks. I think having one here will be a great generating money making machine during the summers. I would def. go if they built it here in Tupelo
Growing up in Vicksburg, I remember there were three water parks in the Jackson area at one time or another.
First, there was Water World or something like that off I-55 near the Gallatin Street exit. You could see the slide looping down the hillside from the highway.
Then, I remember Waterland USA in Ridgeland and Rapids on the Reservoir in Brandon. Rapids was the only one that stuck around, but sadly, that place is closed now, with a condo developer looking at the property now.
I also remember that there was a Cannonball Park in Vicksburg - where a oil and lube shot now sits. My head definitely remembers the hard concrete water slides that also played havoc with the rest of your body as you flew to the bottom.
Ah, memories!
Yes, I think I’d really like a water park. And think of the kids in the area too. Somebody with money needs to invest in one here.
