After you Biz Buzzers told us Casa Monterrey closed, I swung by the restaurant and found the sign (pictured below) on the door Friday.
The Mexican restaurant on Main Street near Crosstown was part of the CVS debacle last year. In May 2007, owner Victor Gomez agreed to sell the restaurant, citing a tough business environment (full story). But then the CVS deal fell through, and Gomez was left with the restaurant.

Its a shame he had to close up shop. I often visited his original Taco Hut many moons ago. You know, before we had 12 mexican restaurants in the Tupelo area.
taco hut was where jody’s currently is…..on industrial dr.
anyhow, victor had the best salsa in town. i will miss it.
nevermind, mis-read what you wrote….
I’m sorry Mr. Gomez had to close his restaurante mexicana, but wish him best.
Speaking of CVS, any news on the whole Thomas/West Main development?
I was wondering about CVS the other day. I called this afternoon and left a message with the church folks, but I think everyone has left for the day. So, we’ll twiddle our thumbs until tomorrow.
Now what will I do when I am on Death Row? The Cheese & Onions Enchiladas was supposed to be my last meal. I don’t know how long I had been going there… could it really be 20 years??? When I moved away & came back to visit, sometimes the Gomezes were the only ones who knew I was in town b/c I would definitely stop there. Went there about a month ago and I have to admit, the meal I had was not as good as it had been in the past.
I wish the Gomez family the best of luck. Hopefully they still own the land. Adios, amigos!
