Travel center looking to open Aug. 11

The Horizon Travel Center  will be opening soon, albeit with a new name. Read our previous Horizon coverage here.

The owner of the center plans to have it ready by August 11, and it will have the Western Sizzlin Express.

If you’ve driven by the place on Eason, you’ve no doubt seen the cars in the parking lot. Those are folks getting the store ready.

The 24-hour store will have about 45 people working there once things settle down.

Oh, and the new name of the travel center? Travel Store USA – Tupelo.

I am glad to see that the new store will be opening. It will be nice to have something better than that old sprint mart. I do think that it will hurt the business of the sprint mart. I don’t like that store anyway because it smells funny. Something about the way a store smells that makes it appealing to a person. It will also be good for people that have to stay with someone at the hospital for a long extended amount of time. Plus I heard that there were plans of putting a motel or hotel there as well. That would be even better.

The Travel Center USA-Tupelo store is now open. However, it still has the Horizon signage. No word when it will change.

The center at the Eason and 45 interchange is home to a Western Sizzlin Express, the first in the country, officials say.

Check out the picture in today’s paper.

What type of gas prices does the center have? Is it any cheaper? Does it have Pontotoc gas prices(which was 3.43)?

Stopped in yesterday around lunch and they were having trouble with their regular unleaded pumps so they were selling all grades at the regular price ($3.69). I’m pretty sure my car has never had a tank of premium before now. But I did think that was good customer service on their part. A manager-type person was out explaining and helping customers.

Gourmand – does the gas have ethanol?

BTW, I am tickled about the ethanol marketing on the area pumps. Some stickers say “contains up to 10% ethanol.” Others say “10% ethanol.” My favorite: “Our fuel is enhanced with up to 10% ethanol.”

I specifically looked for the sticker and didn’t see one. So if I got premium gas with no ethanol, that’s a whole lot more octane than my old Ford is used to. If they don’t blend with ethanol then I will make a point to buy my gas there. I used to be strictly a Chevron man but they are blending too these days.

i did see the small gas station down on briar ridge across from the shell station was advertising 100% ethanol free
