Bishop’s BBQ Grill has been mentioned on the Buzz, so we thought y’all would be interested in today’s cover story from the food section. The owner, Ronnie Bishop, also is the food and beverage director for the Tupelo Furniture Market.
Here’s an excerpt (full story) from today’s Journal:
The third time just might be the charm for Ronnie Bishop.
Instrumental in the opening of both Fire Station No. 1 and Eli’s barbecue restaurants in Tupelo, Bishop has struck out on his own in Saltillo with Bishop’s BBQ Grill.
“I live in Saltillo and it’s a growing community,” said Bishop, 48. “I saw the potential here.”
Bishop, known as Bish to friends, secured the restaurant’s location on Highway 145 North, put kraft paper on the windows and painted the words “fried green tomatoes” near the front door.
“I wanted to keep them guessing,” he said, laughing. “Come April 21, we took down the kraft paper and clicked on the open sign and we’ve been busy ever since.”
The restaurant is near Center City Market (previous coverage), which will be anchored by the Piggly Wiggly.
Note there was a clarification about Mr. Bishop’s role.
From today’s Journal:
“An article on the Food & Dining front in Wednesday’s Daily Journal about Bishop’s BBQ Grill in Saltillo stated that Ronnie Bishop was instrumental in the opening of Fire Station No. 1 barbecue restaurant in Tupelo. Bob Betts was the originator and owner of the restaurant; Bishop was his partner for a short time. Rhonda Betts is now the owner of Fire Station No. 1, which is not affiliated with Eli’s barbecue in Tupelo or Bishop’s BBQ Grill.”
Nevertheless, I’ve been there a few times and give it a big thumbs up on the ribs, pulled pork, fried green tomatoes and beans. Bishop’s also sells pork rinds. It’s good stuff.
