Dutch Pastry Shoppe now open

The bakery we talked about earlier opened today. It’s on South Gloster, across the street from Atlanta Bread and in the shopping strip with The Shoe and Boot Outlet and Babyland.

We stopped in for a visit this afternoon and, boy oh boy, does that place smell delicious. Fresh cinnamon rolls, creme pies, bread, cupcakes, cookies and a bunch of other things. The Biz settled on a slice of banana nut bread and a slice of pumpkin bread – both were quickly devoured.

The Mennonite bakery is owned by a brother-sister team from Okolona – Shana Buller and Darin Buller. Hours are 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The bakery is closed Sunday and Monday. Phone number is 620-6323.

I think I’ll stop in for breakfast tomorrow. Do you serve coffee and/or tea?

Not sure about the tea, Ginny, but there was coffee when I went by Wednesday afternoon. Didn’t try any, so I can’t tell you if it’s any good.

Went by this afternoon and got a cream cheese cinnamon roll and it was Great!! Also bought a casserole for tonight I’ll let you know about that tomorrow.

So – how was the casserole?

The Buzz dropped by the shop this morning to interview the owners and take photos, and brought back many samples back to the Journal.

My blood sugar jumped about 100 points just walking through the doors.

Picked up some honey wheat bread, blueberry muffins and cinnamon rolls for the house, then got a vast sampling for the office.

    Yep, we’ll be going back.

Word of advice – they don’t take credit/debit cards yet, so bring cash or a check. But they do plan to take credit/debit as soon as they get it set up, likely in the next few days.

The samples didn’t last very long at the Journal offices, by the way.

The favorites – just about everything.

Look for a story about the business in Saturday’s edition of the Daily Journal.

I’m still a fan of the pumpkin bread. And was that a pecan cookie that you brought?

Any idea whether they’ll have an eat-in area? Or are the casseroles and things prepackaged for carry-out only?

They have 3-4 tables to sit at, and you can eat some of the fresh-baked goodies there or take them home with you. The casseroles are baked and frozen, so you gotta take those home with you.

Yum. Can’t wait to give them a try!

Trust me – once you walk in, you won’t know what to get because it all looks good.

Needless to say, once you take a sniff, your eyes will glaze over and your mouth will start watering.

Oops, there goes my blood sugar again, up another 50 points just thinking about it.

How do yall eat that stuff? Does it not mess up the taste of your beer?

The pastry shop now opens at 7 a.m. instead of 6 p.m. And, Shana Buller said the shop has had to get additional people to work a second shift because they have had problems baking enough goodies to meet the demand. Nice problem to have.

I found this place by accident. I love all things dutch,so when i saw the sign while driving down gloster,i HAD to stop.
This was about a month ago,and though i live in pontotoc,i go back every week to stock up on the sourdough wheat bread. It is AMAZING.
I have not tried one single thing in there that wasn’t out of this world. From the butterhorns to the pumpkin bread,no matter what you choose,it’s going to be delicious!

Have you tried any of the lasagna or casseroles yet? Any good?

Wow . . . I just decided to stop in and check the place out today and I’m so glad I did! The butterhorns are AMAZING! This place is one of those little gems you find every now and then. I’m excited to go back and try some of their other items!
