From djournal.com’s food blog:
I talked to Al Wallace at IV’s restaurant in Tupelo earlier today and he said he was re-opening his restaurant on Monday, Dec. 1, at its new location on West Main Street across from Ballard Park.
The lunch and dinner menus will change – no more white tablecloths, just good food prepared simply.
Read more about Al’s move and new concept in the Food & Dining section of the Daily Journal on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
this is good to know!! im looking forward to the heat and serve meals myself…just grab’em and go.
Hallelujah !!! I need some Sweet Onion Jam in my life !!!
Sweet onion jam? How would you use it?
I’ll believe it when I see it.
So with the changes in the menu, what is going to be the price range for his new entrees? And what kind of entrees will be on the new menu? I live on the west side of town so I welcome a new restaurant there.
We’ll have to wait until Ginna’s story in Wednesday’s edition of the Daily Journal. She’s talking to Al to get all the details about the changes.
Al uses the Sweet Onion Jam in a variety of ways.
As a condiment on his Meatloaf sandwich.
As a topper on his warm chicken salad.
Its one of those things you just have to try.
MAN, I’M GETTING HUNGRY !!!
Here’s the link to Ginna’s story in today’s paper:

good article….that open air kitchen is going to have that place smelling righteous!!! my understanding is all the food will be prepared out in the open, not just the steaks, adding a lil entertainment value to your dinner as well.
Maybe Al can woo some of the hibachi chefs from Kyoto and start showcasing the onion volcano
Or, he could add a cook-your-own experience. I went to this restaurant in the Australian Outback that had you go through a buffet line of raw food. You picked out whether you wanted a steak, chicken, sausage, shish kabob, shrimp, etc. Then, you got a bowl of veggies. The restaurant was all open air and had large banks of grills. Each grill was outfitted with bottles of sauce and spices. After we had all of our raw food, we were directed to a grill and able to cook until our heart’s content.
I could see a biz like that being popular in Ballard Park or near another park where people want to grill out but don’t want to do the prep work.
im gonna say thats not gonna happen…..
if youre too lazy to do the prepping to grill out you dont even deserve to eat…….just my .02
Ha! There are plenty of businesses who make money off of other people’s laziness or lack of time. Not sure how long it will last, but it’s a trend that’s been around for a while.
like this one….im too lazy to go buy a paper
you should add a tip jar
Gosh, you miss out on all the goodies we put in the paper by only reading Biz Buzz. Our goal is for Biz Buzz and the print paper to work together.
But we hear you with online – the times are changing. Just wait until we get a new version of djournal.com. We have a few surprises in store.

already thinking about the buffet for lunch…..Mmmmmmmmm!
Did the doors open today?
yep….for lunch.
dinner kicks off wed. evening.
LUNCH WAS MIGHTY MIGHTY FINE !!!
Ate there today. The decor is MUCH nicer than I expected.
NICE JOB AL !!!
The food was great !!!
Meatloaf, Pork Chops, Fried Okra, Black Eyed Peas, Greens & Bread Pudding…
Its better than Mom’s !!!
Well.. My wife and I have always been fans of IV’s. So, our expectations were pretty high. I have also read about the changes and what Al is trying to accomplish. I think the lunch buffet and expanded menu will work for some people, but for us IV’s will not be a dinner destination.
The decor is an improvement over past tenants, but the atmosphere in general isn’t much better. The couple with us commented that it felt like “Shoney’s with some nice decor..”. Our service wasn’t good. It was really cold (not the food, the restaurant). People around us were wearing coats. In fact, we decided to only have appetizers and leave. To me, the dinner menu doesn’t fit the atmosphere. It has a “country club” feel where you would expect a buffet, while the menu is more “white table cloth”.
To be fair, they have only been open a week in the new location. Hopefully some of the kinks can be worked out. I may try the lunch some time because I know the food is good. And if they folks at IV’s read this, take it as constructive criticism. I really wish you the best of luck..
