It appears CVS pharmacy is going to make another attempt at a Crosstown location. An unnamed developer has turned in plans to the city planning department for a location that would replace Casa Monterrey, the gas station at the corner and the two office buildings along Gloster before Auto Spa.
Here are the site plans:

The Robins Street neighbors already are asking questions. Remember, these are the same folks who were behind CVS and Redd Realty abandoning its plans for the location in 2007. Read our previous coverage. Last time, the neighbor’s major concerns were increased traffic on Robins Street and destruction of an old building.
In the new plans, the disputed building (Mark Nickels and John Weddle’s office on Robins) is left intact.
We talked with the engineering and planning consultants today, but got redirected to the developers. Turns out it isn’t Redd Realty. We left a message with CVS Corp. to find out what the new plan is, too.
So this begs the obvious question – what about the deal (more) the West Main Church of Christ had with the developer last year that was supposed to build a CVS? A church deacon told the Biz today that it fell through last fall. And he confirmed it was Redd Realty.

Well at least the ghetto looking pink building will be torn down.
Not sure if the pink building is involved. Are you referring to Cancun Mexican restaurant? If so, that is across the street from the proposed CVS.
the robin st. crew ruined the last deal and have a delapidated old restaurant to stare at…..the screwed up a good deal to better their community, imo. now they have their 2nd chance. a nice new pharmacy or keep the old restaurant thats a huge eyesore and a crapped out gas station.
not that i feel we need another pharmacy…but it would improve the look of crosstowns curb appeal for sure. we shall see.
I don’t see where a CVS on that site does anything to Robins St. If you start at Main and drive down Robins towards the school, most of those houses are commercial properties. The falling down apartments on the left of Robins are definitely more of an eyesore.
Point Blank, if you are worried about traffic don’t buy a house 20 feet from Main St.
We’ve been alerted that the site plans aren’t enlarging. We’re working on in it now.
OK. After a wrestling match with wordpress, I believe we’ve made the files work. Let us know if you have more problems with them.
tim, do you mean costume world? because that’s on the wrong side main street. we’re talking about the ghetto blue gas station, and the ghetto closed casa monterey.
yep, it fell through. the developer either 1) opened his eyes and saw the many empty stip malls in the area (that was plan – to build shops around the cvs to recoup his $) or 2) he only wanted the corner lot and thought that by continually extending the closing date, the church would give in and just sell the corner.
Whatever the motive, D.L. is right – it fell through. The developer, not the church, backed out.
I sure hope this comes through. I just emailed CVS last week and asked them to consider Tupelo again. They have so many great deals.
I’m not sure that across the street from Walgreens would be the best place for a CVS!!
something tells me theyve thought of this already…..and decided it was
I see you’ve made it past writing with crayons.
and right into a XXXXXL Cotton Bowl t-shirt from Reeds.
i signed up as jerrell over on tupelotalk to post in the hardy article and forgot to switch my handle back.
No mommy. I’m not talking about costume world but cancun’s. I like their buffet and eat there every month or two, but wished they would clean it up and invest in a bucket of paint.
Tim, go to D’ Casa on W Main. The buffet there BLOWS AWAY Cancun !!!!
true, cancun does look ghetto. and i’ve heard great things about D’Casa and that little taco stand across Main St from Little Caesars.
I tell you what I don’t like about this: When I’m south bound on Gloster and I want to turn left headed towards downtown on Main, sometimes a train is in my way at Crosstown. I often take the alley right before the gas station to avoid the train – with this plan, my scheme has been foiled – There will be no more alley! Argh!!!
Turn on Jefferson…problem solved!
Carnation is my cut-through on the south side.
And, in case you missed it, here’s the story from the print edition:

In response to the comment about building a CVS across the street from Walgreens…..that’s typically what CVS does. Where I’m from (the northeast) it seems that if there is a Walgreens, then CVS builds. And if there is a CVS, Walgreens build. They usually have competing corners. I guess it works because they are both popular and both 24 hours.
