From Daily Journal’s sister paper, The Monroe Journal via monroe360.com:
AMORY – What was once one of the largest industries in Monroe County, True Temper has reduced its work force by another 60 jobs by eliminating its second shift. The company eliminated its third shift in 2008.
Headquartered in Memphis, the Amory plant manufactures steel golf shafts as well as other steel products.
Company officials declined to comment on the lay offs stating they “are privately owned and not allowed to make any statement regarding our employees or their employment situation.”
Hey, I live in East Tupelo and would love to know if you knew what was been built or being planned on Veterans Blvd. It is a strange location to be developed. Also it is a shame they knocked all those trees down and will be blocking that nice barn and horses.
I think you are talking about the Cash Distribution facility on North Veterans. Mitchell Distribution bought the company in December 2008. Here’s the press release:
Mitchell Distributing Co. of Meridian, Mississippi announced today that it has purchased Cash Distributing of Columbus and Cash Distributing of Tupelo, Mississippi.
MDC is the Anheuser-Busch (“AB”) Distributor in Meridian and Leland, Mississippi. It currently services seven counties in East Mississippi and 5 counties in the Mississippi Delta. Cash Distributing, formerly under the direction of Tupelo resident Danny Cash, has been owned and operated by the Cash family since Marvin Cash’s purchase of McGee Beverage in 1961. Cash Distributing is the Anheuser-Busch distributor in Northeast Mississippi and services 5 counties and areas in Northeast Mississippi.
This transaction is the largest single transaction purchase of a beer distributorship to date in Mississippi and expands MDC’s distribution network to 17 counties throughout Mississippi. Furthermore, with the addition of Cash’s volume, MDC will sell more than 25% of the Anheuser-Busch volume in the state of Mississippi.
MDC, established in 1947, has been an AB wholesaler since 1952 and is managed by Joel Payne. In Leland, Mitchell Distributing is managed by Lisa Cowart. The new Columbus operation will continue to be managed by Tony Carley and the Tupelo operation will be managed by Tim Hale. Adam Mitchell will be the Chief Operating Officer of the two Cash Operations.
Manny Mitchell is the president of Mitchell Companies witch also operates Mitchell Signs, MPrints Promotional Products, Mitchell Cranes, National Scrubwear, and other investments. The combined operations employ over 250 people in Mississippi.

Well that is a shame because I am sure that building will be very ugly. It just seems to me that Tupelo in no way, shape, or form wants to have nice building with pretty facades. Gray Steel buildings are the fad. I would much prefer our city to look more like Germantown NOT Midtown Memphis.
