Gawdy and artificial looking, just like him. Oh well, guess it goes up for auction now.

  2. 2 Lisa February 20, 2009 at 12:48 pm

what makes you think his home will go up for auction?

  3. 3 Scott February 20, 2009 at 4:31 pm

For those of us following your coverage of the Stanford story from outside the area, can anyone give us an idea of what a house like this is worth, and if it is typical of mansions in the area?

  4. 4 CP February 21, 2009 at 6:42 pm

Don’t forget there is no evidence yet on what has happened in the Stanford thing. Should we not let the process take place before we accuse anyone, otherwise, you may be the guilty one.

i know jim and his family and they are not artificial and gawdy, sounds like somebody is just jealous and a failure…i dont have a penny to my name but i know that any member of his family including mr. davis himself would give you the shirt off his back! They are not snooty or pretentious! I’m sure he didnt put all of his eggs in one basket and b/c of this one incident that there isnt any evidence about will blow over and his house wont go on the auction block and who could buy it around here if it did? Who would wanna move into that area? Its perfect for that family cause they were all born and raised in this area. I live less than 3 miles from them and ofcourse there arent a bunch of mansions or houses that match it but again these ppl have done amazing things for this area. They have helped lots of churches and im sure hundreds of others i dont even know about just in this area alone. Mr. Jim Davis has a pure heart bigger than that mansion, these are good people and I believe he wouldnt hurt anyone, esp. for money. He is a good devout christian man that knows the Lord will take care of him better than any amount of money!!! You may want to get to know him before you go and judge him and rant about them losing their home and everything! I know the man isnt perfect but seriously, come off of it!
Wanna know something funny…thats not even a good pic of the house…the other side makes it look so amazing…yes they can fit my house in the master bedroom but im not jealous, they earned it and can do what they want…i believe he earned it honestly and he is a very hard worker and always ready to help somebody in need…if im wrong then im wrong…but i will not at any point act like a small person like some of the ones who commented earlier…

Nathan…this is wonderful to know. Hopefully Mr. Davis will give money to the wondeerful people in the area he has helped who make up over $391 million already reported in his state of MS. Hope he doesn’t lose his home and will offer housing to his friends, employees, and others in the area who may lose their homes thanks to this wonderful man.

There is obviously a lot of anger in a situation like this to see a few individuals who may have cheated several hundred out of their hard earned money, but we need to reserve our judgement until more information is made available through court proceedings. I really don’t think we know enough to call anyone guilty at this point, nor would I be comfortable giving glowing endorsements for someone who may have gotten entangled in dishonest gain.

For Scott, we have several similar homes in Tupelo but I have no clue on estimation of worth. It is pretty similar to other areas of the country that are more rural in nature. But his house was actually not built in Tupelo but an even smaller town outside of Tupelo. I can’t imagine there is more than 1 or 2 houses like this in that area.

  8. 8 bigwoolymammoth February 22, 2009 at 10:34 pm

so you think the guy is robin hood? if i stole millions of dollars i would probably be real gracious with my money too. you got to spend it somewhere. a crook can be a nice person, but it doenst make him not a crook.

they knew…to think they didnt is awfully naive. to what extent they knew, i dont know…..but they did. and just because a man is innocent until proven guilty doesnt mean we have to hold out on our opinions till that day.

  9. 9 bigdraws February 23, 2009 at 6:20 am

John Gotti did a lot for his neighborhood too. Folks loved him in Queens. Well…the ones that weren’t wearing concrete shoes did.

  11. 11 opin3 February 23, 2009 at 1:45 pm

    Hey Nate –
Know what? I happen to have an advanced degree AND enough money to live in comfort. TOTALLY IRRELEVANT! We are not jealous – we are ANGRY. That tends to happen when folks ROB you!!! How much of your hard-earned money have you attempted to retrieve from that wonderful pure-hearted man? You can sing his praises all day long; you obviously did not lose any money to these jerks!! Wonder if those “lots of churches” he helped would even want his aide if they knew how his money was earned? Wonder if all of the folks he robbed can stay in the mansion for awhile….just until they get back on their feet!!!

  12. 12 Carl February 23, 2009 at 3:24 pm

I know the family personally and they have always been extremely nice and humble people. I can’t say whether the man is guilty or innocent, but I can at least let everyone know that he’s not some pretentious schmuck.

  13. 13 Juno February 23, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Scott: I live outside of Baldwyn, and this home is an extreme RARITY in Baldwyn. There are some comperable homes in Tupelo. I also know the family personally and have been told-by a family member- that the home has appraised for around $5 million. They did a major remodel of the home a year or two ago.

The Davis’ are a giving family, they like to employ everyone they know. Hopefully their employees won’t lose their jobs, since they all have families of their own. They also like to own 5 foreign vehicles at a time, and take extravagant overseas vacations on the company jets.

  14. 14 fulltiltgolfer February 23, 2009 at 5:04 pm

I can guarantee not one home in Tupelo has sold for even half of that.

I believe Tupelo just broke the $1 million mark for a residence last year. There’s a few listed in the millions, we’ll see what they get.

There is NOONE looking for a $5 million home in Baldwyn.

  15. 15 bigwoolymammoth February 23, 2009 at 6:01 pm

this has nothing to do with whether or not he is a nice guy or likes to help people……..no one said he was stealing from EVERYONE in his life.

he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and will soon have to deal with the consequences. if convicted i would think you could kiss 99% of his assets goodbye……and the jobs and goodwill will go right along with them. im sure he has some hid, but i bet he wont be sharing it with you when this is all over.

many of yall are quite blinded by his charity…..when its now very easy to see why he was able to be so charitable.

  16. 16 Scott February 24, 2009 at 3:55 am

Thanks for the info on the house. Not that I know anything about this Davis guy personally, but Bernie Madoff was also well-liked in charitable circles. Good ‘ol Bernie, they couldn’t believe he would do such a thing. Some people go out of their way to cultivate a charitable image in the community in order to create just this aura. Take in, say, $1bn from investors, give millions to charity which gets your name in the paper, buys you some political allies and a reputation as a saint. Few will notice if you spend the rest of the money on yourself. Well, at least until your investors want their money back. I went to school with a guy who people thought was very charismatic and a sharp investor. He took client’s money and, instead of investing it, used it to buy himself some fine paintings and an Aston Martin or two. When he was caught, he claimed the art collection in his house and the car collection in his garage were, in fact, the clients’ investments. Nice work if you can get it.

  17. 17 businessgirl5 February 24, 2009 at 12:43 pm

Scott and bigwoolymammoth, you are so right. There are many “smooth criminals” out there who would make wonderful public relations personnel. What I don’t understand is, on the one hand, no one can say enough about the intelligence of these successful individuals. But you also want to believe that they had no knowledge of the illegal dealings of their business? What they did day in and day our as a living…their profession? I don’t think they are that stupid or blind!! When push comes to shove, you know when things do not add up as they should.

  18. 18 worker February 25, 2009 at 11:14 am

I worked with them for 1 year in the Houston Office. I met Mr. Davis and Laura several times and was a part of their team. I quit because I felt there was something illegitimate about the whole operation.

My gut feeling was right. I don’t doubt that Mr. Davis is a good person and good Christian. But even good Christians get caught up in greed and power. These 3 ran the show and I have no doubt they knew exactly what they were doing and had done it so long that they did not think they would get caught.

I’m sure Mr. Davis felt the warnings when he was alone with God but sometimes you are so far deep into a situation its hard to get out. God in his mercy will take care of him but he will have to pay for this and sow the consequences. Ultimately, God is more interested in his soul being safe than in his millions and reputation being lost.

It is the nature of successful con artists to be personable, likeable, and to perform good deeds to gain trust.

  20. 20 Poor Mr. Davis February 27, 2009 at 4:55 pm

I too know the family and I have been in his home. He is a great guy until you have something he wants. He has people (Ethan Nanny) smile in your face while he goes around and stabs you in the back. He took a lot from me and it had nothing to do with Stanford, it was him. People can say many nice things about him but that doesn’t change what he really is. He is a crook and nothing else. It will be nice to see him get what he deserves.

  21. 21 moparman February 27, 2009 at 5:20 pm

I seen on the news tonight where Laura got her a new set of bracelets.

  22. 22 CtrlAltDelMe March 4, 2009 at 4:31 pm

As an ex employee who has worked with James Davis, I cant tell you the satisfaction it brings to finally see the man exposed for what he is. Granted, he has charm and and outward appearance of being a fine Christian man, but as those who know him can verify – he is two faced, evil, sneaky, greedy, full of himself and a total sham. I have seen him act as someone’s best friend, only to make fun of that person behind their back. Laura and Heather fell into his web, as he preys on the young and inexperienced. Laura sold her soul to be his soldier and now thousands of people will pay the price for their misdeeds.

  23. 23 madashell March 5, 2009 at 9:41 am

So what if he gave money to churches? Hell Jim Jones owned the Peoples Church and look what happened to them. Up until they came and closed our local we were working employee’s who did not know what was going on. After promises by the attorney for the receivershi that we would receive a paycheck on 2/27, we have received nothing. We were also told by the attorney that we couldn’t resign from the company. So a week later here I am, along with my past co-workers with no money to pay rent/mortage and in limbo. I have no envy of Jim Davis or Allen Stanford regarding their lifestyles or the size of their houses. They were both larger than life and smooth talking when they paid a visit to our office. What I’m angry about is the greed. How much money is enough? They have ruined a company that Stanfords grandfather opened during the great depression. Yes, it’s in ruin. The attorney did let us know that they will eventually liquidate the company. Try getting a job with Stanford on your resume…not in this industry.

What i can’t understand is what did they do….. the other banks are doing every day!
Bankers are vampires, they want our blood(money) But when the american system goes a-wall o someone..they go all the way..they will take anyone to the cleaners, to justify…and them they lay an egg..like in the case of a ounce large accounting firm..in the US..remember, Arthur Anderson..and a few more…there was over 2,5 billion whitdrawn from Stanford banks..in rampage a few days before..few banks can witstand…even the best..my thinking is somebody political just hated stanfords guts..and sunk the whole thing by shear vengence!

  25. 25 bigwoolymammoth March 5, 2009 at 10:20 am

oso…..im dumber for having read your response.

  26. 26 madashell March 5, 2009 at 11:08 am

OSO…let me paint the picture for you.

Allen Stanford opens a bank in Antigua. A country which prior had a history of money laundering.
Allen Stanford buys a failing airline company – Caribbean Sun Airlines.
Allen Stanford opens offices in Mexico, Columbia and another bank in Venzulua.

This all has nothing to do with banks in the US ripping you off or investors. This entire thing is about drug money laundering.

  27. 27 pat March 5, 2009 at 12:30 pm

lets see where this goes. did they brake the laws of this country?

  28. 28 bigwoolymammoth March 5, 2009 at 3:14 pm

they sold bunk cd’s to thousands of people in this country……so ill take yes for $1000 alex

  29. 29 jr85reb March 5, 2009 at 3:24 pm

Just to have a contradicting view, I’ll take no for $500 (bunk) is so ambigious.

  30. 30 bigwoolymammoth March 5, 2009 at 4:21 pm

will “illegal” clear up “bunk” for you?

  31. 31 richardhead85 March 5, 2009 at 5:46 pm

Why didn’t you just say that in the first place?

  32. 33 Dora March 8, 2009 at 6:24 pm

Back in 1995, I resigned from the company after seeing “funny things” going on.

Unfortunately, it has taken 14 years for Allen and James’ empire to fall.

Davis is a two faced man, who should pay for what he has done. When he first came to the firm, he had holes in his shoes, and his clothing was worn and faded!

Allen is so arrogant and full of it. I pity James Stanford, Susan and Randy. I do believe James Stanford, Susan and Randy are the most hurt by all of this.

  33. 34 Ruby March 8, 2009 at 10:34 pm

Wait seriously??? Dora Donis do you even know these people… Susan is the most self righteous, holier than thou person you might every come across- I am going to try to find the link from the divorce hearing where she said she needed to take her housekeeper on a yacht… do you know how many times this woman has chartered a yacht? Now how many of those times do you think she took her housekeeper along for the ride? I’ll tell you not even once she is a lying Bi#@$- paid $100K per month for a shame of a marriage.
Randi is probably a little naive but certainly her mother’s daughter living in a condo valued @ a million +… she is 26 and has never had a job.. Don’t know James- but Dora get a clue!!!

  34. 35 bluedressdog March 12, 2009 at 11:59 pm

Stanford, Davis & that pretty little Susie girl are all money whores; just look up the word in the ‘urban dictionary’. see Braves Dawg March 5 2009 8:57pm…

  35. 36 Friend of Mrs. Stanford June 2, 2009 at 2:03 am

Ruby you must be the naive one because your post is nonesense!
WOW. I bet you have never even met Susan, Randy or James because they are the exact opposite of what you described. Susan Stanford is a humble, gracious, beautiful, giving person. It’s not her fault that she has an extremely strong sense of commitment to her family – Allen and their daughter Randy. Allen’s current girlfriend is ridiculous. What house was she living in??? Allen’s mansion. What plane was she using? Stanford Corporate Jets aka Allen’s Global. What yacht was she using? Allen Stanford’s own yacht – and the list goes on….. Susan Stanford lived no billionaires life. ANDREA STOELKER and ALLEN STANFORD did. Andrea Stoelker lived the life and did far, far more things than Susan ever did or asked for. How about this question….I wonder how many times Susan used the corporate jets before her temporary orders in divorce court. Answer: VERY, VERY FEW because Allen was too busy whoring around with other women. Oh…and what about Andrea Stoelker’s affair with the executive chef at the Pavilion restaurant in Antigua?????? oops…..didn’t mean to let that one out of the bag.

And I have known Randy for quite some time. Again, exact opposite of what you said. I worked for Stanford for many years and seeing Randy was always a pleasure – not like some other rich kids. She was always SO down to earth, and has such a sweet, gentle spirit. And as far as her not working is concerned, I have never known her NOT to be doing work of some sort!!! That is absolutely ludicrous!!!! She would visit my office at Stanford, we would share what each of us was doing….in fact I recall her volunteering all throughout college at a Hospice I believe in los angeles – and last i heard she had an online store which is very much her generation.

Okay Ruby, hopefully you get the point.

  36. 37 Carlos October 6, 2009 at 7:02 pm

Sorry … but need to say this …. Mr. Davis can be a real nice person in his town … but … Pablo Escovar in Colombia was also a nice guy for some people … What Mr. Davis and Mr. Stanford did to millions of investors has no names …. This house and all of his family properties should be sold in order to pay the innocent people that invest in their company ….

These people are real trash the society and because them today there are thousands of old people sleeping in the streets while the rest in their … home …

Davis should be in Jail as Stanford is …. and Madoff is … they are all pants made out from the same fabric

So just stop talking good about this LADRONES ….

  37. 38 Booray October 11, 2009 at 4:36 pm

The Davis’s were customers of mine at one time. They seemed to be really nice people; however, nice people do bad things sometimes. When people do bad things and get caught they have to pay the piper. If it’s proven that they broke the law they should be punished. Even if it’s not proven that they intentionally broke the law, the money they received was dirty money and all efforts shuld be made to take what they have an repay as much to the investors as possible.
    Booray

  38. 39 hillary November 2, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Even the nisest person can be consumed by greed. The davis’ are a wonderful family. I know that for a fact. I’m not saying that we should excuse Jim, but at least show some respect his innocent family. Don’t post pictures and say that they should loose their house.

  39. 40 Booray November 2, 2009 at 2:08 pm

I don’t have enough money to invest so I wasn’t scammed by Jim Davis or anyone else. If I had been I’d expect for all property bought with, or built with the dirty money to be confiscated and sold to give as much back to the investors as they can. Even though the Davis family didn’t do anything wrong, they will be punished for his wrong doings, if he is guilty. If he had gambled his money away at Tunica and lost his home the family would be punished for his actions. If he cheated the investors he gambled that he wouldn’t be caught and lost. Now, if he is found guilty the family will have to suffer as they would have if it had been a loss at Tunica. The Davis family has lived high on the hawg and if it’s proven that the money was dirty money surely you can’t say they deserve to keep up the status quo.
I’m just glad that I’m poor and don’t have to worry either way.

  40. 41 hillary November 2, 2009 at 7:23 pm

Actually, I KNOW his family. They are very kind, down to earth people. He taught his sons to work hard for their money. He didn’t just give them whatever whenever they wanted. Yes, he took them on vacations. So what? you would too if you had money. To my knowledge his family is innocent. All I’m saying is that everyone needs to shut up. Even if their house ends up being sold, it is none of our business. ESPECIALLY if you didn’t even invest with them!

  41. 42 Booray November 2, 2009 at 8:23 pm

I think everyone had shut up about it until you brought it up again. You have your opinion and you wanted to express it, right or wrong, you expressed it. That’s all anyone else did. My comments are about right and wrong, not so much about Jim Davis and family. I had dealings with the Davis family and I also thought they were great people; however, this is not about how hard the kids worked and/or where they went on vacation or how great the family was. This is mostly about the house and what will become of the house. If the government doesn’t take the house, when this is all over if Jim Davis is found guilty I doubt that he and/or his family could afford to live in a 4 million dollar home. The insurance, taxes, utilities and upkeep would be really expensive and the government will try to make sure that if he is found guilty he won’t have enough money in the bank to afford to live there. I really think that if you had lost your life savings you might not feel the need to protect Jim Davis and family. One point of interest, most con artist are “REALLY NICE PEOPLE” and usually well liked until you are caught in their trap. Being liked, and/or being nice doesn’t make you innocent or guilty, it’s what you do, or don’t do. Now, if you disagree with that tell me about it.

Do you think if he’s guilty he should get to keep the money that was taken from investors and continue to live high on the hawg?

Do you think being a nice, well liked person makes him innocent or has anything to do with guilt?

Do you have a life as boring as mine that leaves you fighting via email with people you don’t know?
