The Tupelo Redevelopment Agency unveiled a revamped FairparkDistrict.com today. The watercolor look is long gone.
Now the site has loads of pictures and a virtual tour. You can read more about it in tomorrow’s paper. And check out the site for yourself. A little birdie tells us the TRA folks read the Biz, so we’re sure they’d appreciate feedback.

I love their new website, very professional. The images are beautiful. A+
Love their website and the map of all the buildings surrounding Fairpark…easier to see where a particular place would be in Fairpark.
Not as much about the website as one paticular item in it within the interactive planning map thing, …..but in the middle is a rather large looking area called the “entertainment distric”.
Anyone know what the plans for there are? I clicked where it says pics, and one pic showed something that looked like an outdoor concert? Is this something already active there? or “to be built later”.
When talks of plans were being made of downtown development, some of my thoughts were, …it would be so cool if there was an area there that promoted local acoustic type musicians to set up and play on weekends during spring and summer. (kind of like the square in Mountain view AR, if you have ever been there)
With the musical talent we have in northeast MS, along with visitors expecting this to be a music town since Elvis was born here, I have always felt Tupelo should have much much more music activities going than it does, in addition to the annual festivals and concerts from driving through artists.
The entertainment facility has been in the works for a while. The former chairman, Chris Rogers, was shopping around the site to several movie theaters to see if he could get them to locate. No one bit.
So, TRA – the governing group for Fairpark – decided to hold the property for some entertainment component that would drive nightlife in Fairpark. As far as I know, the current chairman, John Oxford, still plans to hold the land.
The pictures look like they were taken during the Elvis Fest, which is held in Fairpark. The middle picture shows what’s currently there.
And, the grassy area in front of City Hall can also be used for music events. It has concrete areas built into the grass to accommodate chairs.
Of all the objectives that were set out in the original plan, this is the last piece of the puzzle to fall. The total concept of this area was first a vision in 1991 and came out of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street program. It took dedication, persistance and many revisions to bring it to the point it is today. TRA is correct and prudent to hold the land in the entertainment district to make it happen as planned. What will it be like? That is still undetermined but being patient until the time is right and the “right” opportunity comes along is what will pay dividends in spades for the future.
As far as local entertainment opportunities, right on target!! The area at the park “Fairpark” was specifically designed for the suggestions mentioned in previous post. The Promotions Committee of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association has recently formed a new subcommittee specifically for the development of new events for downtown and Fairpark. It is still early but some very creative and talented people have stepped up as volunteers to develop and implement these additional activities. Suggestions are more than welcome. Plus if you would like to volunteer to assist in the effort you may do so at info@tupelomainstreet.com, we will sign you up!
Downtown Tupelo has come a long way but the best is yet to come!! Join us and make great things happen!!
speaking of music i would love to see some sort of small indoor venue to be built somewhere in downtown. building it on the megasports spot seems like it would be a good location.
Thanks for the info, Debbie!
