Kirkland’s to leave the mall

Kirkland’s is moving out of the Mall at Barnes Crossing. The home decor retailer has signed a lease for a 7,500-square-foot space at the King’s Crossing shopping development, which is anchored by Kohl’s and Ross.

Kornel Romada, a leasing agent with The Woodmont Co., which owns King’s Crossing, said the lease was signed last week. Kirkland’s will occupy a space near Maurices in the shopping center. Romada anticipates the store will open in May.

Jeff Snyder, general manager of the Mall at Barnes Crossing, said he “hasn’t heard a word” about Kirkland’s moving, but said it wouldn’t surprise him because Kirkland’s as a company is moving toward a strip center tenant with outside access.

If the store does move, Snyder said it will leave space for mall officials to market to other tenants.

There are plans on the wall at the Planning Department at City Hall for this. Saw ‘em last week while I was checking out plans and details on three new apartment communities either under construction or about to begin construction around here. Who says the economy is down?

I know of one behind the ford dealership, but where are the other 2?

The Pines at Barnes Crossing is the one you’re referring to, behind Metro Ford. Vista Ridge, the long- planned apartment community behind Titan Secure Storage (across Gloster from the MDOT facility), is finally beginning to be built. They’ve started staking off the site. Tupelo Place will be a 36-or-so-unit property built off McCullough Boulevard and Belden, and Danny Barrows is moving along quite nicely on Grand Ole South apartments off Endville Road, across from Summerlin. Danny’s property is very nice. I checked out some of the units and the clubhouse on Friday. They’ll be listing very soon on my Web site, http://www.apt-finder.com, and they’ll be unique to Tupelo in that some units will have built-in garages.

What does this have to do with Kirkland’s leaving the mall?
