Hello Tupelo. Has anyone heard of the pharmacy CVS coming to Tupelo. I have heard that they have bought the WEST MAIN CHURCH OF CHIRST on the corner of Thomas st. and West Main. Is there any truth to this. Thanks for your response

  5. 5 tupelobizbuzz January 8, 2008 at 11:22 pm

We’ve heard that rumor, too. However, CVS won’t comment on any deals until they are signed, sealed and delivered. The last thing I heard about the CVS/Church of Christ deal was the two couldn’t work out a timeframe. The way I heard it, the church said it would sign if CVS would allow the members time to find a new location. However, CVS was looking for a site that was immediately available.

But, all of that is rumor and was passed down through the grapevine. Neither party has commented.

You can read previous coverage about CVS here:
    http://tupelobizbuzz.wordpress.com/2007/07/23/cvs-to-build-in-west-point/

And, please keep in mind that just because the Crosstown CVS plan turned into one big hot mess, it doesn’t make CVS a bad company. It does mean, though, that it is going to tread lightly while it attempts to enter the Tupelo market again.

Just for the record, the new CVS in West Point looks very nice!!! Not sure when it opens though. One at Crosstown would have really made that intersection look great.

Wherever they decide to build in Tupelo, it will definitely be a great addition.

Hi, guys!! It was so cool to see your post on Poynter just now, Carlie. I’m originally from Mississippi (Pontotoc and Tupelo). My dad, a longtime doctor from the area (James Hubbard, M.D.) and I now run a magazine from Colorado (the blog for it: http://www.MyFamilyDoctorMag.com/blog).

I was a Daily Journal intern in probably 1998, believe it or not.

I would love to subscribe to this blog’s feed but couldn’t find a link to do so. Am I missing it somewhere or is this not an option?

So glad to have found you!

    Best regards,

It’s about time for another Toyota Drive-by don’t you think? It’s been almost six months.

  12. 12 tupelobizbuzz November 3, 2008 at 11:26 am

We had a fly by in September, if you’ve had a chance to look.

An actual drive-by is tougher now because of limited access to the site. Before, we could drive much closer, but no longer, that’s why there hasn’t been a Toyota drive-by recently.

    Sorry!

However, we will be on site officially sometime this week, and maybe we can drop a few photos.

  13. 13 Chimpie November 3, 2008 at 7:12 pm

Yep, saw the fly over and loved the pics. Thank you.

Hey Biz, Globe Wholesale is owned by Briggs in Memphis. Heard a rumor they were thinking of transferring everything up to memphis and closing Tupelo office within a month. Heard anything about it?

  18. 18 tupelobizbuzz December 9, 2008 at 12:49 pm

Please forgive my ignorance, but who or what is Globe Wholesale?

  19. 19 bigdraws December 9, 2008 at 2:13 pm

So he’s Japanese, eh? I thought he was Arab or something by the picture.

Barney – Thanks for your participation on Biz Buzz. I sent you an e-mail to the address provided and it bounced back. There isn’t contact info on your site either. Can you please e-mail me at carlie.kollath@djournal.com or post another e-mail address?

  22. 24 ASK January 27, 2009 at 5:59 am

Does anyone know what they are building behind Lowes?

  23. 25 tupelobizbuzz January 27, 2009 at 11:42 am

It’s the Hampton Inn and Suites. However, I haven’t seen any work on it since Toyota announced the delay. Has anyone else? I’ve called the owner and didn’t hear back either. Not sure what’s going on, but I’ve got a hunch.

We wrote a story in November about all the hotels. I can’t find the link on djournal.com so look out for a Biz Buzz post ASAP with the story. We’re going to have to do another hotel update because so much has changed with Toyota’s delay.

  24. 26 getitoverwith February 13, 2009 at 2:11 pm

    Hey Biz,
I heard the Cotton Bolt was going out of business. Any word on that? If it’s been on here, I must have missed that day.

  25. 27 tupelobizbuzz February 13, 2009 at 2:35 pm

Oh, I hope not. Great fabric. I’m adding it to our rumors post here:

    http://tupelobizbuzz.wordpress.com/2009/01/19/closing-rumors-in-tupelo/

  26. 28 Just Me February 22, 2009 at 9:10 pm

So here is a rumor I heard. According to a source of mine, Lane realized that they laid off to many of their office support. Rather than rehire or call back any of the laid off employees, they are hiring new employees and using temps. As I said…this is a rumor, but I have heard it from several people.

  27. 29 tupelobizbuzz February 25, 2009 at 10:51 am

Hmmmm. We’ll add it to our list of things to dig around about. But, I wouldn’t hold your breath. Lane hasn’t been too forthcoming about personnel issues in the past.

Thanks for the tip! I just had a convo with a coworker about the opening, as well. We posted the news here:

    Keep the tips coming.

Anyone know anything about green initives, grants, etc. and how to “connect the dots” with eco friendly products and services?

We have products to save our schools or businesses 25-35% of the electrical bill…this should be covered under grant money. How do I put it all together?

It is a shame to lose teachers and programs for lack of money. As a community, maybe we can connect them with the green initives our President is talking about. I just need to know “HOW”!
